The horrific events that occurred on September 11th 2001 still haunt us to this day.  The aftermath of that day will take its toll on many people for years into the future.

According to a CNN article dated August 2016, over 5400 First Responders and civilians have been diagnosed with cancer related issues following the attacks from 15 years ago.

Sal Randazzo responded to the World Trade Center on 9-11-2001 and helped with efforts on that awful day as well as aided in search and recovery efforts for the next 6 months.

​

Sal was diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer in October 2014 just a few months after his mother passed away from breast cancer.  Sal went to his doctor to be screened for cancer genes after his mother passed.  He had no idea that he was Stage 4 when he received his test results.

 

Sal immediately began an aggressive treatment program.  Since his diagnosis in October 2014,  he has been through 8 rounds of chemo, 16 weeks of radiation treatment and 2 surgeries which have destroyed most of his nervous system rendering him disabled.  He also suffers from severe PTSD and now fibromyalgia due to all the nerve damage done by the chemo and radiation treatments.

Sal has not been able to work since October 2014.  He is in the system waiting for help from the 9-11 Victim's Compensation Fund and  for disability.  In the meantime, a divorce has now caused bills to go past due and he is being forced to sell his home.

Sal has 4 children:  Joe (23), Salvatore (18), Nicholas (14), and Angelica (11)
